Roof Repairs: Keep Your RV Dry and Protected

Your RV’s roof is one of the most important — yet most often overlooked — parts of your rig. Whether it’s rubber, fiberglass, or metal, eventual wear and exposure to sun, rain, debris, or even minor impacts can lead to cracks, seal failures, leaks, or soft spots. If left unaddressed, water intrusion can damage interior panels, insulation, cabinetry, and even the structural integrity of your RV — not to mention cause mold or unpleasant odors.

At RV Clearcoat Paint & Body, we provide thorough roof inspection and repair services to catch small problems before they become costly headaches.

What We Inspect & Repair

  • Seams, seams around vents or rooftop units, and rooftop penetrations — the joints and seams around vents, skylights, A/C units, and panel edges are often where leaks start. We inspect and reseal these using high-quality RV-grade sealants.

  • Small cracks, punctures, and holes — whether from tree branches, hail, or wear, we patch tears and apply durable coatings or membranes as needed.

  • Surface wear, coating degradation, and entire-roof reseal or recoating — UV exposure, weather, and time can degrade roof membranes or coatings. We recommend periodic recoating to renew protection and extend the life of your roof.

  • Soft spots or structural issues under the roof membrane — If a leak has been long-standing, the underlying plywood or structure may be compromised. We inspect for rot, soft spots, or water damage and repair or reinforce as needed to ensure safety and integrity.

Our Repair Process

  1. Full Inspection: We examine the roof membrane, seams, protrusions, and underside (where accessible) to assess potential weak points or damage.

  2. Surface Prep and Cleaning: Roofs must be completely clean and dry before sealant or coating application. We also remove old, cracked sealant.

  3. Repair or Reseal: Depending on your RV’s roof type (rubber membrane, fiberglass, or metal), we apply the appropriate sealants, patch materials, or coatings. For rubber roofs, this may include membrane repair or resealing; for fiberglass or metal roofs, patching, sealing, or recoating as needed.

  4. Final Inspection & Testing: After repairs, we double-check all seams, rooftop penetrations, and repaired areas to ensure a watertight seal and proper finish.

When to Repair & Early Warning Signs

You should bring your RV in for a roof inspection or repair if you notice any of the following:

  • Cracked, peeling, or missing sealant around seams or rooftop fixtures.

  • Water stains or moisture inside near vents, ceiling, or panel edges.

  • Soft spots or sagging on the roof surface or interior ceiling.

  • Blisters, punctures, or holes in the roof material.

  • Discoloration, chalky or brittle roof membrane (especially rubber roofs).

Catching these issues early can save you from expensive full-roof replacements or interior water damage down the road.
